A Lomé, le Président Macky Sall a participé à la rencontre présidentielle sur les faux médicaments. Le Sénégal soutient le projet d’Accord-cadre sur la criminalisation du trafic de produits médicaux de qualité inférieure et falsifiés.
Le président sénégalais est arrivé vendredi dans la capitale togolaise où il a été accueilli par son homologue Faure Gnassingbé.
Sur son site, la présidence togolaise indique que ’’deux invités de marque ont été accueillis (vendredi après-midi) par le président Faure Gnassingbé’’.
’’C’est le chef de l’Etat sénégalais (…) Macky Sall qui a foulé le premier le sol togolais. Il était suivi de son homologue ougandais (…) Yoweri Museveni’’, selon la même source.
Participent au sommet de Lomé une délégation de la Fondation de Brazzaville conduite par son président d’honneur Prince Michael de Kent, M. Omar Hilale, Conseiller exécutif de l’UNICEF, et M. Michel Roussin, ancien ministre français de la Coopération.
La rencontre de Lomé visent à ’’créer une synergie d’action internationale contre le trafic et la consommation de faux médicaments sur le continent et dans le monde’’.
La présidence togolaise indique ’’les travaux de la rencontre auxquels sont attendus plusieurs chefs d’Etat africains et des représentant de l’OMS vont déboucher sur un nouvel engagement international dit +Initiative de Lomé +pour une lutte efficace et efficiente contre ce fléau’’.
L’ »Initiative de Lomé » est un accord international qui vise à criminaliser le trafic de faux médicaments, responsable de plus de 100 000 morts par an en Afrique, selon l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS).
Depuis près de deux ans, la Fondation Brazzaville, une organisation indépendante à but non lucratif, basée au Royaume-Uni, travaille sur la question des faux médicaments.
Sous son impulsion, sept chefs d’Etat africains ont décidé de lancer en commun une initiative pour intensifier la lutte contre les faux médicaments sur le continent.
Dans un communiqué, la Fondation souligne que l’Initiative de Lomé ‘’aboutira à la signature, par les chefs d’États du Congo, de la Gambie, du Ghana, du Niger, de l’Ouganda, du Sénégal et du Togo, d’une déclaration politique et d’un accord-cadre légalement contraignant’’.
La structure ajoute que ‘’cet accord les engagera à renforcer la législation pour criminaliser le trafic de faux médicaments et sera la première phase d’un programme plus large visant à assurer un accès à des médicaments sûrs et efficaces à tous leurs citoyens’’.
L’Initiative ‘’marque la détermination des chefs d’États à lutter contre un commerce assassin qui tue des centaines de milliers de personnes chaque année et finance la criminalité transnationale et le terrorisme’’, selon la Fondation.
